Hello! I am Victoria. After completing my A-levels at Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College, I went on to study a BSc in Computer Science at Northumbria University. At the end of my three years, I had achieved a 2:1 (with an average of 65%) and was then accepted at Newcastle University to embark on the MSc course in Computer Game Engineering. Alongside my bursary from the military, Newcastle University also offered me a scholarship to study with them. I am yet to receive my final master’s grade but my current average is 72.6% (putting my degree classification as distinction). I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in education and tend to favour the more creative aspects of my subject: working on graphics and animation, designing the characters and storylines, and watching 3D spaces that I have programmed, come to life through VR (virtual reality) goggles.
During my four years at university, I have been part of Trojan Squadron (DTUS) in Newcastle. As a JUO for two of those years, I assisted and mentored the younger officer cadets entering the scheme, helping with anything from uniform and squadron standards to applying for courses. I set an example for others by pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, I welcome challenge and this is evident from when I organised and oversaw an AT expedition, went on Exercise in the US, and completed my Rock climbing Single-pitch Foundation course (despite being slightly scared of heights).
I have been proud to represent my squadron and schools in athletics, hockey, cross country, netball and rugby, which has taught me the value of organisation and motivation, both individually and within teams. My love for sport has continued during my time at university having joined the Athletics Club, completed The Great North Run, which was my first half marathon, and after having the chance to play volleyball in America, was selected for Northumbria’s volleyball second team. As part of this team, we were promoted into the league above and got to the semi-finals of the BUCS Women’s Northern Cup. I joined the Newcastle University Volleyball Team but unfortunately due to COVID, we couldn’t train or compete. I progressed from never having played volleyball to joining the university teams and I am also an active member of the Royal Air Force (RAF) Volleyball Association. My goal of joining the RAF has also encouraged me to keep fit, I am a part of our squadron’s climbing club as well as going to the gym and practicing yoga regularly.
